Railroad Ghost

This photograph of the ghost near the railroad tracks was taken by MR and Mrs. Chesney's daughter the date the photograph was taken was one weekend when their daughter and her friends went to San Antonio, Texas where a tragic accident occurred. Mrs. Chesney’s daughter and her friends took several pictures Mrs. Chesney’s daughter then emailed them to her mother. At the time her daughter and their friends did not know that it was in the pictures until the following day when Mrs. Chesney printed the pictures and showed them to her daughter and friends as anyone’s normal reaction they were shocked and completely freaked out. The tragic accident that occurred here happened in 1949 a school bus loaded with children had stalled as it was climbing over the tracks the back wheels of the bus had gotten stuck on the tracks causing the engine to keep stalling as it desperately tired to get across, no warning was given that a train was coming.
For back then there were no signals only wood that was placed between the tracks on the crossing but would often warp over time and would often trap tires therefore this was the reason why the bus had gotten stuck on the tracks. Shortly before the bus was struck a few children were lucky and were able to get out through the windows.

Sadly the bus driver and most of the children died back then there were no other adults on board to help monitor the children and there were no emergency exit doors no were there any pop out emergency windows. It is unknown by some how many children died. Till this day it is a very sensitive story that still angers people when questioned or asked .the scene still haunted many parents everywhere. Residents reported seeing ghostly children along with the story that while parked or had their vehicle put in natural they have felt there vehicle pushed over the tracks by unseen hands that could be seen by the prints they left behind on their dirty cars. Others have sprinkled baby powder to authenticate the small handprints. This site is often visited by many to experience them. Many have claim to see orbs in there photographs.

Waverly Hills, Kentucky Sanatorium

Waverly Hills Sanatorium located in Louisville, Kentucky an 800,000 square ft building was built in 1908 and was opened in 1910 as a hospital built to combat the disease that had ravaged America the disease was known as (the white death)tuberculosis . It has been said that if you were known to have tuberculosis you had 24 hrs to turn yourself in or they would come and find you. Shortly after the hospital was built it had become overcrowded. A new structure was built in 1924and opened in 1926 in the days before medicine was available to treat this epidemic Doctors experimented on patience in to search for a cure for this disease.

The experiments conducted on the patience were barbaric. Patients lungs were exposed to ultraviolet lighting to try and stop the disease the patients were shown in old photographs of lounging in chairs outside some were literally covered with snow. Surgical treatments were given Doctors would remove patients organs in order to rid the body of this terrible disease. Along with these treatments electro shock was also given .for the patients who didn’t survive this disease they were transported through the tunnel that was located on the first floor of the hospital which was referred to as the body chute that lead the diseased to the graveyard. In 1928 it is said that a nurse in room 502 committed suicide by hanging herself from the light fixture, she was 29 yrs old, unmarried and pregnant and said to have contracted tb .
A second nurse in 1932 jumped out of the balcony of the roof from the same room 502 she fell to her death several stories below. in 1961 an antibiotic was found and the hospital was no longer needed the hospital was closed but reopen one year later and became a geriatrics hospital it closed in 1981 due to patient abuse. Urban myths claimed at this time that patients were being treated for mental problems and other terms were given to describe the hospital during those last few years .the hospital has remained vacant ever since. Paranormal activity has been reported by several people. Many claimed to have seen apparitions of what was thought to be of those who once was a victim of the plague. Some have claimed to have seen gurneys and wheelchairs that still remain there move on their own. There have been many visitors over the years that have token photos that have either orbs or ghostly figures in them. Recordings have been done inside the walls of the sanatorium on the recordings they claim to have recorded hearing wailing and voices.

Video has also been done. Myths are that 60,000 people have died in this place but I don’t believe anyone really knows exactly how many have perished or what horrible deaths the diseased went through in Waverly hills. Children were also claimed to have resided here as well. View more of the photo's at http://www.louisvilleghs.com/LGHS_MASTER/SUB/Investigations/Waverly/Photos1/waverly.html

Eastern state penitentiary
Nancy Farmer
Eastern state penitentiary designed in 1821by a Philadelphia architect john Havilland. It was a massive building resembling a castle. Designed in the shape of a wagon wheel the five wings extended outward from a central point. Located in the middle of urban Philadelphia. The cost for building this large structure was around 780,000. Its exterior walls are 30 ft tall and its walls are 12 ft thick.
April of 1829 the prison doors were opened. Each cell had a small skylight so that the wisdom of god might shine down on them .The cells were damp and musty with poor circulation. Prisoners height, weight, age hair and eye color even the length of their feet were entered in a book provided to help identify him or her. After being interviewed and given clothes the convict was taken with a hood placed over his head to his cell. Rules that were given were that they were to keep their cell clean and in order, they had to obey promptly to all directions by inspectors, warden, or overseers. Communication with fellow prisoners in adjoining cells was not allowed or even during exercise in the yard. Prisoners were locked into their cell where they would stay until the end of their sentence. Prisoners had no contact with family or friends no communication to the outside world was allowed. This isolation caused many to go mad. Solitude was meant to inspire penance instead it caused insanity.
They were allowed an hour a day in solitary, outdoor exercise was frequently shortened. The plumbing system didn’t work correctly which left waste in the pipes causing the prison to have a strong smell of human waste, often causing the prisoners and staff to become sick. The cells measured 8x12 ft .prisoners was invisible to each other and to the world. Charles dickens wrote about the penitentiary saying “slowly and daily tampering with the mysteries of the brain to be immeasurably worse than any torture of the body”.

Five years after opening the prison the state investigated charges of prisoners being abused as well of embezzlement of funds .There were claims that prisoners would wait on administrative staff to work on tasks within the prison to earn money for officers .investigators found use of severe abusive punishments against prisoners. Water baths was one of the forms of punishment used on inmates who were stripped of clothing. They were then chained to the outside wall during cold days and doused with cold water causing ice to form on the inmate’s body.
The mad chair, prisoners were strapped into a wooden chair with leather straps so tightly causing circulation to nearly stop causing great pain. Forced to sit for days without food or water causing the inmate to go mad. The iron gag, a piece of metal was placed over the inmates tongue with the inmates hands cuffed behind him there was a chain that was connected from the front piece of the gag to the back of their cuffed wrists . If the inmate struggled it would cause the metal piece to go deeper into his mouth .One inmate is known to have died from this torture. A Solitary confinement used for punishment was what the inmates called “ Klondike” which was located in cell block 13 the state of PA wasn’t aware of this cell block the cell was very small and had no light it was said to be cruel and unusual nature. The prison was required to knock down the walls. Shortly afterwards cell block 14 was created. which was deemed as” The hole” which prisoners were kept in for weeks on in. The state was unaware of this cell and did not give authorization for the use of this form of punishment. The prison was used for 142 yrs. The prison held criminals such as Willie Sutton and al Capone. The prison closed in 1971. Since the closing of the prison visitors and researchers have claim to have heard and seen paranormal activity.
Ghost adventures paid a visit to the penitentiary and filmed unexplained noises including audio of men’s screams. Pictures of a lit doorway in the courtyard were caught on their photos were there were no lit areas in this part of the courtyard. Dark shadowy figures have been seen as well. Many have perished within these walls a house of horrors is what it has been described as. It has been said to have many souls who are still there today. Tours of this vast and horrid place can be seen and visited for yourself.
